Staying focused

When composing or improvising, it is all too easy to become overwhelmed by the enormity and complexity of what you are trying to achieve. I know I have the feeling of going nowhere or constantly going in circles when I compose or improvise.

The remedy is to stay focused. Have a clear idea of the message or feeling you want to convey through you music. Write it down even and have it in from of you as a constant reminder of where you want to go.

The vision you have in your mind could be a place, a feeling, even a person. Your inspiration can be anything so long as it provides a reference point for your music.

Keep this in mind and you’ll find yourself moving foward sooner.
