Favourite Pieces

Today,  a parent came up to me and mentioned how his daughter makes so much effort with the new pieces given to her from her teacher particularly pieces that she likes. He was saying how he finds it hard to encourage her to practise the other pieces. She complains that she doesn’t like the sound of it and only focuses on the ones that sound “pretty”. When she came in for her lesson, her teacher asked her to play all the pieces. Listening to her play from the outside, we could both tell that she aced those she liked and didn’t so much with the other ones. As she came out of her lesson, her father mentioned how he heard her play and how she should concentrate more on those “disliked” pieces.
