With a few of our students absent due to early holidays, it is another quiet evening at Shine Music School. I am actually quite amazed that students are still turning up to class so late in the year! I know I never would have, but don’t tell your parents that.
Two of our students who had both recently sat the same saxophone exam were in silent but subtley fierce competition with each other. The student who achieved a slightly higher score was very proud to have beaten his friend in the exam, and had told their teacher about it, obviously extremely satisfied.
The other student, still not completely defeated, swore to exceed his friend in the next exam by practicing harder and longer. Actively practicing and putting in 110% effort to beat your friend will in fact help improve your musical talent and further your knowledge far more than if you were grudgingly practicing 10 minutes a day so you would not get into trouble. And this indeed was friendly competition at its best.
