Shine Music school seems to resemble something of a haven; according to the online dictionary, a haven is “any place of shelter and safety; a refuge”. The school is a place of refuge from the cold weather and never-ending rain outside. Parents, students and teachers stay warm and cosy either waiting in the front area (where I am!) or within their individual instrument rooms. Despite the absence of a heater, the school stays warm, sometimes to the point where we can take off our scarves and thick jackets.
Some parents drop their children off, in most cases early, while other parents sit inside and wait. Parents bring in their own books, or choose from the magazines and books we offer, or even sit and do their own thing such as writing in a diary, or playing on a phone. Students sit down and colour in, do their homework from school or play with their siblings. I feel that if the parents and students were sitting down with a cup of hot chocolate or tea, it would feel almost like home!
