Something that I have noticed to occur at the start of every single term, each year, is the relatively high number of student absences in the first week. These students do not call to inform us of why they will be absent because they themselves don’t realise that the new term has started! It amuses me that so many students seem to forget that the holidays are over – I understand for adult students, who do not follow the public school term, as well as those private school students who have longer holidays than others! I also understand that after a break, the first week back at school can be hectic for parents who had changed their routine around to suit their children, and are now forced to rush everything back into order! In order to minimise the number of forgetful absences, here at Shine, we make calls, send SMS reminders and even send emails to remind some of our students that music lessons do commence this week! Perhaps a large mark on the family calendar will also keep everyone posted on the schedule!
